Teeth Whitening – What You Should Know

Teeth whitening can lead to a brighter smile and a more confident you. Whether your teeth have been stained from drinking coffee and tea, or you are just looking to make your teeth a few shades lighter to match your new tan, teeth whitening is a great way to start with a fresh “you.”

Teeth-Whitening-What-You-Should-Know

How is teeth whitening done in our office? An impression is taken to make a specialized “mouthguard” to hold the bleach against the teeth. The material is used for 7-10 days for approximately 20 minutes, once or twice daily. Depending on the patients sensitivity level once or twice daily should be adjusted. At the end of this time, significant whitening could occur. In some cases, the change is nothing short of brilliant. For confidence in appearance, bleaching technology allows us to promise improvements in yellowing, aging or stained teeth. For very severely stained teeth, crowns or porcelain veneers may be more appropriate.

The benefits of an at-home remedy are that they are more wallet friendly, and can be done on your own schedule for merely minutes a day, as frequently as you desire.

All in all, as with most things, there are general side affects that everyone will experience differently. Be cautious and observant when considering whitening options. Read all instructions carefully, and understand that not all whitening products work the same for everyone.
